Bin day today, went out to get the bin back in and it was twenty yards down the street. Idle bastards.

There's still a recycling bin on the pavement outside from last week - belongs on the other side of the road.

I remember when the bin man came right down the side of the house, picked up the bin (and they were metal in those days and had some weight to them even empty) took it out, emptied it and put it back where he found it. Nowadays it's just a piss-take.

Next they'll be telling us we have to empty the bin into the lorry ourselves too. And go down to the depot to give the lorry a service and a clean at the weekend. There'll be a rota for that, though, won't be every weekend.

Our paper and cardboard is put out in sacks for re-cycling. I always have to wait in until it is collected, otherwise the empty sack can get blown away and lost!

Yeah - 'Find another job before you're made redundant by robots.' Although that's no good because getting made redundant from the Council is like winning the pools.

I do separate the plastic but that's it. Recycling - another piss-take. It all goes to the same incinerator. I use one of the boxes as a laundry hamper.

We have: black bin for non recyclable and blue bin for recycling, alternate weekly collection (food waste can stink a bit during summer months, even when tied up in bin bags).
Then there is the brown bin for garden waste (about £50 per annum fee).
Just a bloody good job that we have enough space to hide them away in the front garden. So many streets of terraced housing in Ipswich are spoilt by all the bins permanently out front by the pavement.

That's what it's like here. Although in theory they can fine you for leaving it on the pavement.

There's alleys that run along the back of all the rows that were purposely designed to provide service access for bin collections and that.

Which they used to do, you just slung your bin bags over the wall into the alley the night before collection and you were done. But now everything has to be as easy as possible for the binmen and a massive pain in the arse for the people who are paying them. Because that has to make sense.

Here the food waste is collected every week and the bins are emptied by 08:00. Black bins alternate with Brown bins (for the garden waste), as do plastic and paper, with glass/tins and cardboard. Fresh rolls of plastic bags for both the food waste (bin liners) and for plastic waste are provided each year along with the collection schedule. The local council have it pretty well organised.
