True. Go back just 100 years and a fair percentage of us would not have survived past infancy.

Sure, I accept that, but that doesn't dilute the value of the point I was making. I have a BIG problem with how large pharma have eroded our ability to benefit from what nature has to offer. In that respect, the Chinese have got it right and are probably a 100 years ahead of us, when it comes to natural remedies, and which have ZERO side-effects!

The fact is, if we truly knew all the benefits, medically and nutritionally, our trees and plants had to offer, then we'd be less reliant on drugs, to treat certain conditions, and likely far healthier on many levels - but of course there's no money in it for the large pharma, producing all the drugs!

And because of the huge influence they have now on medicine, I HATE how much they get to control the agenda... That's my point

You have been fortunate. My experience is somewhat different.

Made in the country of origin, using component parts made there; most of the items are old (30 to 45 years) and are still working well:

    Audio

    Turntables: Swiss or German
Pickup arms: Swiss, British or Japanese
Cartridges: American, Japanese, Danish or British
    SUTs: Japanese
    Phonostages: American, or British
    Amplifiers: American, or British
    CDP: American, or German
    Tuners: British, or Danish
Reel to reel tape: British, or Swiss
    Cassette machines: Japanese
    Speakers: British
Cables: British, American, Swiss, German, or Japanese

    Other items

    Cameras and lenses: German
    Fridge: British
    Freezer: British
    Cooker: British
    Kettle: British
    Coffee maker and grinder: German
    Blender: Swiss
    Iron: East German
    Fountain pens: American and British
    Shavers: German
    Hairdryer: German
Power tools (drills, saws, sanders etc.): British and Dutch

Items not made in China but containing 'uncertain' components:

    Car: German
    TV: Japanese
DVD: Japanese (and cost not much more than the Chinese ones I had)
    BluRay: Japanese
    Mobile phone: Finnish

So far all are working well, but coming from reputable manufacturers I live in hope.

Stuff made in China for Western or Japanese companies. and presumably to their design and quality control (but some of it started to develop problems, usually after about a year and had be replaced)

    Computer: American
    Monitor: American
    Printer: Japanese
    Digital camera: Japanese
    BT landline phone and hub
    Microwave oven: Japanese

So, a mixture of experiences; but the main reason I try to avoid anything made in China (and I agree it is very, very difficult) is I don't want to do anything to support the Chinese Communist Party with their despicable treatment of the non Han minorities, their expansionist Belt and Road project, and their insidious controlling influence in Africa.

Not many people know this, but I have one of the World's biggest sound libraries of Historical documents. And a superb and huge record collection, if I can brag.

I happen to own a record called "Concert Classics Volume 2"

Anne Shelton sings in 1940 some terrifically cheerful songs about our (slim) chances of beating the Hun (The Nazis) in WW2.

    The Fleet is in.
The Sailor with the navy blue eyes.
    Frank and his Tank.

Awfully plummy voices at the BBC in those days. But we got through it. I hate revisiting the past. More interested in the future. But being interested in the present is really the best you can do. IMO.
