In the above Orwell claims there are 11 points to the making of "a nice cup of tea". I don't agree with them all:
[1] Not necessarily - some of the finest (nicest) tea I have drunk was some leaf tea I brought back from Burma. Also black Russian tea is very good. Tea doesn't have to only come from India, Ceylon or China to be good.
[2] Agreed
[3] No, a glass tea pot is also fine, and although Orwell doesn't mention it, a tea cosy should be used to keep the tea in the pot warm
[4] No - it's a matter of taste. I prefer my tea weak, so I don't let it brew for too long.
[5] Don't agree - 'filter style' teapots are fine
[6] No - the water should be just off the boil. Boiling water 'scalds' the leaves and impairs the flavour
[7] Agreed
[8] Possibly
