I fully agree, as do the Italians. Dario Argento, for example, has produced some great stuff, such as 'Susperia', etc.
Problem is, I *HATE* subtitles! With the latter, it's not a problem, as I speak the language, but if a 'foreign film' isn't in that, or French, and I've got to sit there reading the bottom of the screen to get what's going on, then it's a turn off...
Get the Japs to make the same films in English (as for most of them it's their second language anyway), and I'd be right in there!

inclined to feel that way with most myself as you have to concentrate too much on reading them and they are often difficult to read. but ive seen a few films i enjoyed with the titles. In fact i have the English and German versions of Das Boot and i used to prefer the GermanFair enough, for me they're an annoying distraction, but dubbing is even worse!
