Lol - no doubt, but at what age, I wonder? None of that going on yet, even at 55...

When Del went to the opticians, just before lockdown, to get a new pair of specs (frames plus lenses), she was given a sheet of laminated paper, with (I think) five paragraphs of text on it, in varying sizes, from biggest to smallest, and I tried it and managed to successfully read all but the last one, which was pretty tiny!

The only difference I've noticed in my eyesight, since say 15 years ago, is that I find it harder to read now in low-light conditions, but as long as the light's good enough, there's no problem

I always thought that, with age, it was more of slow deterioration? Or you were unfortunately just born with poor eyesight.

One thing that won't bother me one iota, when I need to wear glasses, is how they look, as there are all sorts of cool/stylish frames these days, whereas at one time [remember the 'Deidre Barlow' look, from the 70s, or other 'thick milk-bottle types'?], and with frames, all you could get was 'jobby brown' colour! UGH...

So as long as you get the right frames to suit your head size and face shape, it can look quite distinctive

I had to wear specs from age 14. Only had the first pair about a week and I got in a fight and they got broken. Parents not happy. After that had to avoid getting in fights. Sport harder too, you can't play footie in specs and you're not much use on the pitch when you can't really see what is going on 30 feet away. Not that I was any good anyway but did enjoy it.

The other disadvantage at that age is it makes you less confident with girls. Although at an all-boys school that wasn't really relevant for me that often. Later you find out the vast majority of women don't care.

I'm short sighted so can see to read and stuff fine. Just with age I now can't read close up with specs on, I have to take them off or look over them. That change did happen very quickly.

Genetic, both parents and one brother short-sighted too. Not much you can do about it.

What I first noticed was fine print becoming harder to read. I'm mostly far sighted and can read road signs and number plates OK to an extent, but I'm knackered with anything close up.

That's me too. I can read most things in daylight, but with artificial light I'm screwed. During the winter months my A-Z in the car is not worth bothering with.

yup although my distance isnt good enough legally without glasses for driving i dont agree as i can read signs and plates ok, but still wear thyem to be safe. i need reading specs tho and another set for pc
