Most of mine come from charity shops these days, though some are bought online.

The charity shops round here rarely generate a good haul. Although if you were after Robbie Williams albums you'd think otherwise.

Plus I'm duplicating my vinyl collection on CD so I'm after specific albums. Ideally not re-masters.

Be can see me getting back into CDs, the back wall in the room was full of those Ikea tall narrow CD shelf things, not to that extent though.
Been a few times where Tidal or Quobuz have lost an album I USED to have on CD, which was annoying.

Clearly they are not from the '60s or '70s or even the '80s. They are much more recent than that, but I'm prepared to take a punt on some new acts that might be of interest to me. If I don't like it, I'll simply return it to the charity shop - but I have found some unexpected serendipitous finds.

Also, a good proportion of the charity shop CDs I buy are classical - I'm always interested in listening to different readings of classical compositions.

I reckon about 80% of my collection of well over 2,500 CDs are duplications of vinyl LPs of the '60s through to the '80s. Today you do have to be careful in choosing which mastering edition you want. A specific example being Frank Zappa's 'Hot Rats': the origininal mastering is available but you have to seek it out, otherwise the re-master (which is actually a re-mix - is that a tautology?), is easily available but is not IMO as good. Same with The Rolling Stones 'Let it Bleed'.

That the beauty of streaming, you don't have to take a chance and good luck finding most music in a charity shop. I can try 1,000s of different albums and sometimes i find something decent.

As for different masters and remasters they can be loads and the decent ones can be rather expensive.

Kicking myself that I used to have the Barry Diament mix Zeppelin albums on CD...
rare as rocking horse s*it and just as hard to find for a reasonable price nowadays.

Sold a lot of CDs when I went streaming...now Im thinking to get back into CDs again.
Still have 250 or so, but sold more than twice that - a lot of them quite rare or spendy.

Kinda like back in the Day when you sell your vinyl and cant get it back on CD years later...history repeats!

I might try this streaming thing. I've got Amazon Prime and now I have a DAC with a USB I suppose I could just plug the laptop into the DAC and it should work?
