Your right about the Trough-Line, it is a flawed gem in terms of performance, though not sound quality. To much signal it overloads to little and it is poor in noise levels and it can drift of station too (though normally that would be the case with a bad/poorly maintained one). However its sound quality is excellent if you can pamper it.

Having played with some Jap tuners recently, it is easy to fall to the allure of easier operation and a more solid tuning ability. But the question for me is does the Trough-Line hold its own sound wise...I use mine with an EAR FM decoder. I haven't answered my question yet.

Old Creek tuners seem to be very well regarded by many people but in my humble opinion they are very overrated. I had an old Creek a few years ago and found it very coloured (but pleasant) sounding. Like most British tuners they are simple, crude designs with poor sensitivity & selectivity specs. I'd rather use a good vintage 1970's mid-range Japanese tuner such as Sansui TU-517, Trio KT-7500 or Pioneer TX-9500 - try one of those an you'll soon realise the limitations of your Creek. Expect to pay around £90 to £150 for the Sansui or Pioneer and just £40 to £60 for the Trio (a real bargain!).

Well i did a deal with a guy on Flea Bay last weekemd for a Sony 'TC366' Reel To Reel, Quad '33' Pre Amp, Quad '405-1' Power Amp..
He did me the lot for a very good £140.00 including postage. They have just arrived. After close inspection they look scruffy but no problem,no cosmetic damage apart from a trim on the Reel to reel but i'll get that re-anodised, they can eaisly be restord to new condition. More junk
