I believe this type of film was referred to as "kitchen sink drama".
Another such film of the early sixties was "A Kind Of Loving" with Alan Bates and June Ritchie. A bit of trivia for you: while much of the outdoor locations were Bolton and Preston, the indoor factory scenes (where Bates' character worked) was the Blackburn Mullard Factory

I have some Blackburn Road Mullard EL34s in my Radford amp. I wonder if they were made by Alan Bates?I believe this type of film was referred to as "kitchen sink drama".

But joking aside, 'A Kind of Loving' is an excellent film, as is 'The L-shaped Room', both of which explore subjects that, until then, had not been portrayed in film or on the stage.
