I'm nipping to Honda in the week to take a look at the two mini bikes... even brand new they are about £3k.. bargain...

As has been mentioned by someone in a previous thread, small bikes may not be easily noticed when in traffic. Might be worth fitting a mast to your helmet, with a flashing beacon on top. Better silly looking than sorry And if you choose a blue beacon they may even get out of your way.

I thought the Hornet idea you had would be better - small women on big bikes look super cool imo.

Visited Honda yesterday and sat on the Monkey, MSX, PCX and Super Cub... and fell in love with the MSX.. it just felt right to me..

The Monkey was a fantastic looking thing but just a bit too jokey for my liking and even though the seat is low it's also wide so my little leggies splayed out too much the PCX was just huge and heavy and the Cub just looks too old

The MSX is an amazing little machine... I know it's only 125cc but feels like a whole lot of fun to me.. especially as I've not ridden for a while the light weight and small size really appealed to me..

I'm now looking around for a near new MSX but if not I'll do a deal on a new one... From about 2018 they also came with ABS so that's what I'll go for

Now I'm on the look out for some new mc clothing... I've already got a nice Arai full face helmet in a fancy print... I think it was about £300 when new so I'm sure it'll do for the MSX

I've got some Rukka trousers but they are black so I might change them for something a bit brighter.. I've also got a decent Belstaff jacket but, again, I don't really like the colour now... thought about a leather jacket but don't think it'd really go with a small bike so I thought about one of these, mainly as it's red.. :

Whalley Bridge Dam.

Which came first, the dam or the town? I'm guessing that when the dam was built 180 years ago, there was no town. Maybe a hamlet and a farm or two, but not much else. So that begs the question, who gave permission for a town to be built/evolve, directly in the shadow of this dam. It's ridiculous! As is choosing to live there.

When considering somewhere to live, the first thing I do is look to see where water is nearby and how high the land is. I'd not live where flooding could be a problem or land erosion near the coast, although we have recently inherited a house right on the Kent coast (might sell that).

There's no way I'd ever live below a dam! We've seen it before, they are disasters waiting to happen!

Pretty rare for a dam to fail in this country, and a catastrophic failure is even more unlikely. It has happened, I think one went bad near Sheffield but that was back in Victorian times. I still wouldn't be comfortable living in the shadow of one though.

I can see what happened at Whalley Bridge.

The spillway ramp is clad with multiple rather thin concrete panels and probably due to age, water has got through joint gaps and eroded the soil bank beneath it dislodging the panels. There's a retaining wall to the right which has been undermined, leading to the outside grassed bank to also move.

The whole spillway surface needs replacing with a thicker reinforced concrete surface with a minimal number of panels, heftily tied together at expansion joints.

They'll need to substantially drain the reservior to do this. Not a good time of year for it really, there's six months to a year's worth of work there and the Autumn rains are not far off.

It happened in 1925, killing 16 people: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Llyn_Eigiau. The cause was poor design (insufficient foundations) and poor workmanship (badly mixed concrete).

I was in N. Wales a few weeks ago and visited the site of the broken dam.
