My brother came for a visit yesterday and bought a few old family things to put with all the other items I keep safe. One thing was our grandfather's wristwatch. It's very bruised and battered and not running. My brother did take it to his watch expert to see if it could be resurrected but he said it's beyond repair and some parts would have to be hand made plus the dial might not be able to be cleaned. So it will remain a piece of family history. It's probably around 100 years old and been in at least one war. Not sure it's in it's original box but it certainly has lived in it a long time.
I really like this thread and very much admire the watches, for me the plainer the better but that's just me lol. I guess what I'm trying to say is this beaten up old relic of a watch means more to me than all the posh ones I've ever had.

I can understand that completely, my dad owned a particularly ordinary but perfectly good Jeep watch, probably no more than £40-50. But it's the first thing I'd save out of everything I own. My mum and I were with dad when he passed away, I took it off his wrist and gave it to my mum, she held it for a moment and gave it back to me and told me dad would want me to have it. I can't even begin to express how much I care about that watch.
