The Kompressor engine is good even though it’s small. Watch out for repair costs though - Mercs can be damn pricey.
At least it’s a C Class though, so you don’t have to worry about the bloody SBC pump!
Engineers: fixing problems you didn't know you had in ways you don't understand.

I'd go for it, mate - providing it ticks all the right boxes (don't need to tell you what those are) and you're reasonably confident of its (good) history. It'll be a nice thing to drive and might encourage you to get out more

Too true - and I can attest to that! Although, mainly with my old one, not so much the Brabster. That's the problem though, a lot of folks buy Mercs, Beemers and Audis, because they're fundamentally nice cars and great to drive, but simply don't factor in the running costs and potential repair bills, which if something major goes wrong, can be huge!
My mate, who runs a professional car-tuning company and garage sees it all the time... Daft 'kids' (I mean those under 25) buying old/high-mileage 3-Series M Sport Beemers for what they think is a 'steal', just to drive around in to 'impress' their mates, then the likes of a turbo or the gearbox goes pop, and the game's a bogey because they simply can't afford to fix it!
So.... When buying second-hand Mercs, Beemers, and especially Audis, as their parts are often the dearest of the three, always keep a spare couple of grand in reserve, just for 'emergencies' and/or take out a good warranty (if you're not able to fix what's wrong yourself)!
