Were those interceptors armed with anything else apart from the one giant missile? I doubt that they had heat-seeking technology in those days, so to fly thousands of miles, then miss, must have been a right sickener. "Well that's me done, might as well bog off back to base now".

Watched an episode last night (first time in 40 years) much to Mrs. P's bemusement. "What's this crap? I bet those geeks on your forum put you up to this" was all she said before going away to wash her socks or something.

Anyway, back to the episode: IT WAS ALL A DREAM! I reckon this is where the producers of "Dallas" got their Bobby Ewing idea from.

Perhaps that was the look that young men aspired to in 1980. It was the future after all.

Personally I preferred Straker's silver urban fox look. Better than Philip Schofield's Barnett, plus he was way too cool to look at the camera and say Phil's favourite line "coming up after the break".

Not keen on Straker's car though, it looks like someone dropped a giant crate onto FAB 1.

Re the missiles: In earlier episodes they have nuclear warheads and don't need to make a direct hit to destroy the UFO, the blast being enough, but in later episodes it does seem that they actually have to hit the thing to blow it up.

So only having 3 interceptors did make sense originally. I'd guess they didn't have a 'bible' or if they did the scriptwriters just ignored it and no-one cared.

The interceptors were only armed with one missle, SkyDiver had multiple missles available as each Sky had two pods on each wing and weapons mounted just front of the pilot cabin. Not sure about the Mobile units, if I recall right each one had its own particular weapons configuration.

The models in Space1999 were originally to be part of a second series of UFO, to be called UFO 1999 but that didn't happen and Space 1999 was created. So Eagles, and Hawks would have been the space hardware used against the alien craft.

Sure UFO has its flaws, as does the second season of Space 1999 but these series I loved as a kid and despite seeing those flaws more easily as an adult I still enjoy watching both series.

Both programmes qualify as 'proper telly'. Just a shame they don't seem to understand how to make entertainment like that anymore. Its either got to have some idiotic PC message running through it like a stick of rock or it tries to be too clever for its own good. Or both.

I want to see "Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea" return.

They had some real adventures. And the episode with the giant whale and the one with the squid, absolute classics. And Seaview was so well engineered, it didn't matter how badly damaged it got you just had to turn some wheels and the leaks were instantly fixed. They don't build 'em like that any more!

Indeed, and shame the same thing can't be said for today's Dr Who!

Was watching Ironside the other night. Was never that keen on it back in the day (it was always called 'Ironsides' in Liverpool for some reason) but compared to modern shows it's pretty good.
