Had a vw golf. Mk1 and it had paint issues too. Brother had loads of vw vehicles but stopped. Not sure why tbh. Might have been price.

My golf was overall a good car in the day. only real issue was the rotor cover and moisture, which, alas we get a lot of up here. wasn't the best starter, and the vw dealer never really managed to fix it ...tried everything as well. Brother and his wife had several, mostly golfs or polos, but recently they started going elsewhere. now both are upmarket with a merc and a bmw...but both are wealthy so can afford such luxuries.
