googled the old house...the new owners have bastardised the front garden Was hundreds of nice bushes and roses etc in there in rows. looked great in summer.

You get some right lazy fuckers, with an aversion to using a trowel, lawnmower, or getting their hands dirty

We had a lovely garden too, as both of my parents (particularly my dad) loved flowers and also growing their own produce, especially herbs, such as thyme and rosemary, which are both essential in Italian cooking. We grew tomatoes in our greenhouse too, for the pasta sauce!

I got into serious trouble over some maths homework done in a lastminute.com style. The teacher called me over, and laid into me about how untidy my work was. 'Apart from anything else, it looks like you used a cigarette packet to rule these lines' he said, to which I replied 'I did, sir'. I truly wasn't intending to be cheeky, but he thought I was, so I got a belting.

Ha - love it! Ah, the days when proper discipline was allowed in schools.... My homework was usually covered in something I'd spilled on it (Coke or whatever), after the bus had gone round a corner

used to get belted rotten up to 2nd year when a few of us bigger guys told the teachers to stick it where sun didnt shine. there was a bit of a ti'do about it but the teachers were basically cowards and didnt fancy a doin' .. also i was winning a lot of trophies for the school at time and when i went to see him i explained that for me to try harder and actually go to classes and gym etc i would obviously have to reduce my swimming...That had the desired result and teachers were warned to "not expect me"

Nice... I've only been once to Aberdeen. Outside of holidays, I spent most of my time in the south side of Glasgow, or at secondary school in Paisley. I went to primary school in Queens Park, in Glasgow, and lived in the house I showed you from 1965 to 1989, just before I met Del, after which we got our own place, before moving down to Wales in 2000.

Yeah, Rouken Glen was (still is) just lovely... Pretty big in size and very 'leafy' and unspoiled, with beautiful trees and woodland walks, which went on for miles, and a wonderful selection of wildlife. Plus, there was also a boat pond and golf course, and you could go on horse and cart rides round the park, nice cycling paths and all sorts. Great place for a kid to play in the summer months

Nice one. I got up to all sorts of shit too, and was always pretty big (tall and muscular) for my age, so when it got to about 4th year, I didn't take any shit either. We used to laugh when one of the weedy wee teachers we had gave us the belt, as it didn't hurt much, which made him go ballistic...

The more he tried to belt us harder (at some point even jumping up in the air, to get more force behind it, and yes, it was comical to watch) and using the thick tip of the belt over our knuckles, the more we just laughed, to the point of him becoming so angry he almost had a seizure

remember me and another guy flinging the gym teacher in the pool fully clothed. he wasnt amused but at same time scared to do anything. think he ran to rector who apparently laughed at him, and told him to stop being a jerk with folk bigger than him

was a good rector that guy. well was with me. was only interested in gaining awards and a quiet life.

Went outside to wash the van this morning, and the next door neighbour said good morning to me. Nothing unusual in that you might think, but that's the first time that's happened, and we've been here more than 15 years.

Thing is, he's had a gardener do some extreme surgery on the shrubs and bushes bordering my drive, including cutting down a half dead tree. There is now a big gap, so my van and his car can see each other. If these greetings are going to be a regular thing I may have to think about moving.

Mrs. P was talking to him yesterday, and she says he seems very nice. And he wants me to build some fences for him, the same as ones I did for next door on the other side. Hopefully he'll want 6 foot jobbies.

Like Mickey Flanagan, I may have to peep out of the window before going outside.
