What is your reason for hi-fi?

Yebbut it's not just about that for me,and I didn't mean just volume-wise,I meant the emotional connection to the music.That's what I'm looking for.

Yebbut, yebbut, did you miss the last paragraph in an earlier post where I mentioned precisely that (and I'm not talking here just about 'volume'):

It is creating that perceived musical 'realism', and thus emotional connection with the performance, whether it's balls-out rock music or the spine-tingling intimacy of a small-scale jazz ensemble, or similar acoustic-based performance, that for me personally is what having a top-notch hi-fi system is all about.....

And also here:

I want my system to successfully capture the sheer vibrancy, dynamics and 'texture' of the real thing - only then will I be able to suspend disbelief in the way you describe above, and truly achieve that all-important emotional connection with my favourite music.

You can have both 'realism' and 'emotional connection', you know! In fact, I'd say that successfully achieving the former almost guarantees the latter

I guess the more serious point I was making is that sometimes people strive for some romantic notion of achieving an 'emotional connection' and forget all about how real music is supposed to sound!!
