No. I find amps that are a bit two dimensional bland, but this has nice depth & ambience.

    Great little amp the 306.

Never got on with the 606, it was only here a week.

No, not IMO. The first current dumping designs, the 405-1, could be described as such, but Quad quickly put things right. I have the 520 and a pair of 510 monoblocks. The 606, 707 and 909 were developments of the 500 series.

Speakons are a bit of a PITA and unfortunately have become standard connectors on professional tour-grade audio equipment.

Still coming to terms with the Quad 707.

I'm driving the power amp directly from the M22C DAC, which has its own volume control.

This is definitely a very good amp indeed. Best amp I've used? Impossible to say, but I think it's quite probably the best all rounder I've owned. It just doesn't put a foot wrong with the Tannoys and never draws attention to itself, which a neat trick few amps manage.

I was just playing June Tabor's 'A Quiet Eye' and the lucidity of her voice was just perfect. It's an album that can sound slightly bright at the extreme top sometimes, but not here.

I followed with a bit of Shpongle and you need all the depth and ambience possible to get this right. Again, it was perfect.

All in all, a nice result and definitely better than I'd expected. It's a 'fit and forget' amplifier. Likely to be a keeper. Where else can you get this kind of sound quality and huge power for the money? You can't!

Geoff if you do want to sell those Modern Classic tubes CT15 I might be interested if you can post them. Might be interested in the VTL as well.

Ming Da pre-amp sits well on the 707.

I might, if I was selling. Not at the moment though. Knowing the input impedance of your Krell, I reckon it would be a good match.

Fair enough. I'd like a listen to it. So that's me first dibs on the Cheviots, the modern classics and the Mingda [emoji23][emoji23]
