I sort of know what you mean - but I've had some great bits of American kit - Perpetual Technologies, Audio Research, DK Design, Faroudja, Zu Audio, MG-1 Airbearing tonearm. I think some of their stuff is made with a care and attention which demands respect. Much isn't, of course.
OTH - I've driven American cars and eaten American food
. Neither paragons of quality!
Why anybody would boast that either was made in America defeats me. I recall being pleasantly surprised at finding a car in the US which would go around corners and come out facing the direction it entered them (the new Camaro) only to discover that the underpinnings were Australian
!
