I have a spare machine which I am going to use partly to play music.

The Ubuntu Studio is the favourite as it is bundled with quite a few goodies, the LTS issue (Long Term support) 12.04.3

There is a later release 13.10 which will have only 9 months support but there is another LTS issue in the offering in April 14.

Anyone with experience with any of these 64 bit distros?

What experience do user here have?
