“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

    Thumbs up Speaker cable

Huge thanks to Dave (hifi_dave) for supplying me gratis with some QED 79 speaker cable.

This is the sort of thing that makes AoS such a great Forum (and a great community).

Thanks again Dave, your generosity is much appreciated.

Big thanks to Allen (Audio Al) for buying my Dual TT it was a prompt and painless transaction.

And also for putting up with the disgraceful state of the 'walpurgis den' (finished re-polishing my Ditton 15s by the way).

Default Huge Thanks to Mark (Markiii)

Had a trip down to Welwyn today to pick up a Technics 1210 MkII from Mark. It was good to meet such an enthusiastic and knowledgeable gentleman. Listened to the TT through his system and he let me listen to my 'Best of the Crusaders" album as a tester! Excellent, I wished I could have stayed longer but the Fuehrer was already barking orders to go on manoeuvres in the garden with the mower!!!
Thanks Mark. Great system, beautiful home. Hope I can return the favour some time.

I'm grateful to Carl (valves) for selling me a nice Decca Maroon, which is sounding very good as I write this.

    Many thanks,
    Geoff.

    Default Scott Nangle Audio (daytona600)

Sadly I must report that Scott (trading as Scott Nangle Audio) has let me down badly and proven to have very poor customer service. I ordered 13 SACDs on 15th April and since then have received every excuse as to why they never arrived. I asked repeatedly for shipping details and tracking number and received evasive replies. I was told repeatedly that they were shipped (apparently in two packages) but never saw them and never received any hard information such that I could attempt to trace them.

When I had finally had enough and asked for my money to be returned on 20th May it took a further 10 days and a threat of legal action to receive the funds back into my account. Again I had the same excuses, including 'the funds never left my account', whatever that means.

All of this could be forgivable if Scott's communications were good, but sadly I had to do all the chasing and phoning at every step of the process. I am patient and can forgive a start-up business a few hiccups, but this went very much further than that.

I cannot in all honesty recommend Scott's business and will not be using him again.
