It's simply the damping material applied to the cone which has gradually flowed over the millenia

Ok then 40 years or so... Even glass flows over the years

I don't think so mark it way too yellow & thick, mine were coated colourless like the below left.

thoroughly enjoyed this years show. even tho the much heralded amatis weighing a collossal amount were good to hear the aos room was one of the best and i could have stayed there for longer . i guessed it was an aos room by the multiplicity of mark grant dsp cables and of course mains cables r us

papa lazarou`s obx were sounding marvelous as usual with the kondo preamp

all the snells sounded good and what a privelige to hear 3 sets of snells in one day

dr rock really had me going with his choice of music and his apogees and his modded arcam cd player was a joy as well

met quite a few lost souls and had to direct,, perhaps next year we should have strategically placed direction finders to guide folks who were a fair bit nonplussed

I would be really interested in hearing Alex (UK) opinion of the systems he listened to, particularly with regard to system cost v performance.

(my calculator is on smoking just from inputting the approximate costs of the kit in the pictures )

Na i think thats just excess glue from the dust cap fix

With the grills attached we wouldnt be having this intresting convo regarding a possible DIY varnish application instead of bullshyte 'i love this & that system', so it's good to remove grills imho

Of course, ALL speakers are coloured to some degree, so with Tannoys, I supect it's simply a case of you identifying an annoying (to you) coloration which my ears ignore and factor in as part of their 'addictive musicality'.

I was about to post exactly the same thing!

We are as one.

I'm not sure there's much point in me pointing out to you the particular errors I hear Tannoys making ... I've tried that sort of thing before. ... I actually pointed with my finger - "Look, there it is ..."
It didn't help much.

Anyway - suppose I succeeded - would you actually want me to spoil your enjoyment of the Tannoy sound?

However, at the end of the day, it's all subjective. Anyway, congrats on making some nice sounds!

... Come to think of it, I enjoyed it too! ... the Tannoys just wouldn't be a speaker I could live with over the medium term.
