Hi Jerry,

No worries - I totally agree with you. It's defo a case of 'different strokes for different folks', but I also like to learn where others are coming from, as in many cases the way other people listen can identify things that previously you weren't aware of, and which can sometimes be useful.

I just can't get me 'ead round that one, I'm afraid.

In that respect, next time we must listen to Tannoys together, so you can point out where the "whispy whistly graininess" is, which I don't seem able to hear.

Of course, ALL speakers are coloured to some degree, so with Tannoys, I supect it's simply a case of you identifying an annoying (to you) coloration which my ears ignore and factor in as part of their 'addictive musicality'.

However, at the end of the day, it's all subjective. Anyway, congrats on making some nice sounds!

Speak as I find, it was nice to have a quick chat with the AOS lads again this year on the Sat night, I missed checking your room out this year as mainly I was paranoid about leaving my kit with the grubby handed public. I did hear back some positive reviews though so well done, sorry one of your members didn't enjoy my horns, ''all boom and tizz'' apparently, well goes to show how different our tastes are and makes the hobby better for it IMO.
Nick, always a pleasure to chat with you, maybe next year you lot can come have a beer and curry with us? You never know you might enjoy it.

Would love to go for a curry with you guys, but the problem is, finding the time to fit it in! By the time I've packed the car and driven down there, unpacked it all and set-up the system, it's usually after midnight!

You guys are either better organised, have less gear to set up, and/or live closer to the venue....

Loved your system playing (Duke Ellington?) - the dynamic range of those horns was incredible, and so any acoustic instruments, particularly trumpets and sax sounded amazingly life-like. 'Conventional' speakers simply can't do this.

However, the price you pay for such dynamic impact and immediacy, is that horns don't always reproduce other types of music so well, which is what I think some people picked up on. I'd totally disagree with the "all boom and tizz" remark, as that simply wasn't the case with the right music.

The other thing is, cabinets aside, you designed them yourself, so mucho respecto!!

I also loved the Lenco/12" Jelco (Shelter 501?) combo, which showed exactly why I rate all three items - the Lenco, in particular, being an amazing bargain, when mounted in a suitable plinth. It was very musical sounding and enjoyable indeed, so well done!

It's simply the damping material applied to the cone which has gradually flowed over the millenia
