He tends to want to belt over to other dogs barking like mad and recently caught me on the hop when he lunged at a passing dog and spun me off my feet landing on the road on my hip and shoulder. He's all show and doesn't really want to attack anything, just rather lively. But being a powerful sixty five pound lurcher, he can catch you out!
Well you're to be commended for continuing with the dog-walking in spite of it all.

Lurchers look like a breed with a lot of energy - I wonder if you could use that to your advantage... Set up a treadmill for him as a means to generate electricity, save yourself some money this winter I know you'd have the technical know how.

Dog "walked", leccy bills sorted, win-win

But then you've got to offset the cost of all the extra food the dog will eat due to all the exercise it's getting.

I suppose if you live out in the bushes you could shoot rabbits and feed them to the dog to keep it going, but then you need a shotgun and it all gets complicated quite quickly.

Ferrets cost less than shotguns, and are quite cheap to feed. Just have to factor in the cost of a flat cap. Do they have ferrets down south?

Or get the lurcher to catch the rabbits, they're probably quite good at that. But then we're back to the original problem.

Nice and sunny here, if a little windy, and 14°C.

When the ferret's not catching rabbits to feed itself, it can be running on the treadmill. Maybe you'd need two so they could work in shifts. Get rid of the dog alltogether.

I don't think they have ferrets south of Birmingham though.

Some proper blue sky thinking there, well done

Yeah I think you're right about there being no ferrets south of Birmingham, but the problem won't be unsurmountable, just need the correct paperwork. The language barrier might be a bit of a problem, but I'm sure it could be overcome by training the ferrets through a system of pointing. Works for me when I'm on a foreign holiday

Still might be worth keeping the dog as a back up though, Geoff could include under-performing ferrets in its diet to keep costs down.

    Ferrets are rather nice pan-fried.

Lots of rabbits about, but Ted (Teddy) the lurcher ignores them. There was one right in front of him earlier and he paid no undue attention.

We also have a little Chihuahua called Chico. Barks at everything and is totally fearless. I call him the 'little git'!

Neither dog is mine. The little one is my grand daughter's and the big one is my daughter's. I just get lumbered with 'walkie' duties, don't mind really.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!
