I'll compare it to my Monarchy Audio M22B later. I have a funny feeling there may not be much in it.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

Here's a link if anybody wants to try one, what is there to lose (apart from a fiver ).

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Digital-O...53.m2749.l2649

You'll have to wait a few weeks for it to arrive. Just listening to mine now .

(I've ordered another for the second system)

However, I'm firmly NOT in the camp of liking valves to sound 'warm' or 'rose tinted'; 'cuddly', etc, indeed the best examples of such don't. For me, those are not attributes, but rather negatives... TBH, valve amps which sound like that give the 'side' a bad name!

    Marco.
I would agree with your valve philosophy.

Does that still get under the customs barriers? I think the new rules might change things a bit.

If it's only 20% VAT added on there won't be an issue, - will cost £6 instead of £5, but if there's some extra payment due it might not be worth it.

    Better than I expected.

Never been struck with the Musical Fidelity DACs I'd heard, but I though I'd try this little thing as it was reputed to be decent. It is!

Smooth, detailed and properly transparent. No nasties at all that I can detect from a couple of brief listens. It doesn't major on slam, but turn the volume up a bit and you don't notice. Pretty good, cheap too .

i had one of their bigger dacs. it was a decent thing tbh, and had a nice, non threatening sound that i liked.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Having a play with this NAD power-amp, it sounds rather good. Better than I expected, laid back, punchy and very transparent. Took half an hour to 'come on song', usually a good sign, it means the designer actually listened to the amp after it was warmed up.
