The Big Sleep(again) 1978 this time... Lew Grades' version with Bob Mitcham in the starring role and set in England. The cast includes Sarah Miles, Candy Clark, Joan Collins, Harry Andrews and Oliver Reed, also featuring James Stewart as General Sternwood.
interestingly both mitch and stewart died withing a day of each other in july 1997
