    The fisherman bit rings a bell because I remember thinking that a Bogart character would never do that for a living. Although I think he was into his sports fishing and owned a yacht. But thats not the same.

    yeah it was sport fishing. he rented to rich guys fishing marlin. walter brennan was his sidekick.. a bit loose in head and whisky daft..

    Hemingway was a bit of an extreme character (nutter?). Interesting though, a bit like Jack London in ways. Funny thing is I've read London, but never Hemingway. I tend to enjoy American writers.

    I've read 'A Farewell To Arms' but wasn't that impressed. It's just about him knocking around and eating and drinking, nothing much happens. At least that's my recollection.

    Good film that, probably their best one. I was in America in 2004 and several of the indigenous personnel advised me how much they had enjoyed it, as though just by being British I must have somehow been personally involved with making it. I hadn't even seen it at the time.

    At 3pm on 'SKY arts' there's a 1988 Pink Floyd concert recorded in New York. Might give that a look!
