    The Sweeny - 'Big Spender'

There's no poor episodes of The Sweeny but this one has Catherine Schell at the height of her powers playing 'A high class scrubber with no form.' Proper telly.

The Asphalt Jungle, 1950. Directed by John Huston and stars Sterling Hayden, James Whitmore, Sam Jaffe and in one of her early roles, Marilyn Monroe.

The film was nominated for four Academy Awards and was and still is highly regarded as one of the director's best.

follow that up with the 49Th Parallel, 1941. Powell & Pressburger.

Stars Leslie Howard, Laurence Olivier, Raymond Massey and Anton Walbrook.

Film did very well in Britain, and was a major money spinner making over £1m... Interestingly Pressburger, who had fled Germany in the 20's for France and the Britain from about mid 30's, was arrested and was going to be deported when he returned from Canada from making the film.. He was eventually released.. Typical bureaucracy eh.

The First Great Train Robbery, 1978. Directed by Michael Crichton and stars Sean Connery, Donald Sutherland and Lesley Anne Down.

A good crime caper from Crichton's own novel.

The Ballad of Cable Hogue, 1970. Stars Jason Robards, Stella Stevens, Strother Martin and David Warner. Directed by Sam Peckinpah.

Imo one of Peckinpah's best .Although not his usual violence here, a spot of humour is evident, especially from Robards. It went over budget but still made a small profit.

The lovely Stella Stevens helps it along too
