Murder She Said, 1961...




The name of the manor house where Miss Jane Marple conducts her inquiries is called Rutherford Hall in Dame Agatha Christie's novel. This was changed to Ackenthorpe in this movie to avoid comparison with the surname of Dame Margaret Rutherford (Miss Jane Marple)

The character of Miss Jane Marple's librarian friend, Jim Stringer, was not part of the original story (and never featured in any of the Christie books). The part was written for Stringer Davis, who was married to Dame Margaret Rutherford.

Dame Margaret Rutherford undertook a month of fencing practice for this movie's denouement.

The screenplay was not based on any published Dame Agatha Christie story. It did, however, borrow a few obscure plot details from "They Do It With Mirrors", and there is a delightful moment when Miss Jane Marple pays homage to Christie's long-running play, "The Mousetrap".

My Favorite Spy, 1951...



The only one of Hope's three "My Favorite" movies not to feature a cameo from Bing Crosby. Though Hope does make reference to Crosby when he holds up a skull and says "you remind me of someone I know who used to sing."

Young Frankenstein, 1974..

Gene Hackman learned about the film through his frequent tennis partner Gene Wilder and requested a role, because he wanted to try comedy. He volunteered to play the Blind Hermit for free. It was four days of shooting for about four minutes of running time.
Gene Hackman ad-libbed The Blind Man's parting line "I was gonna make espresso." The scene immediately fades to black because the crew erupted into fits of laughter. Hackman was unable to repeat the line without laughing with the rest of the crew, so the first take was used. Hackman was uncredited when the movie was originally released in theaters.

In 1974 Aerosmith took a break from a long night of recording to see this film. Steven Tyler wrote the band's hit "Walk This Way" the morning after seeing the movie, inspired by Marty Feldman's first scene, the "walk this way . . . this way" scene.

Watched a few Coen bros films over the past week, they are exceptional, Blood simple, Raising Arizona, A serious man, Millers crossing, Fargo, with Blood simple and Fargo being the stand out films for me anyway, with that beautiful actress Francis Mcdormand.

Comin' Thro' the Rye (1923) was not filmed just for this movie, but was an actual silent classic directed by Cecil M. Hepworth.
The scenes of Comin' Thro' the Rye (1923) with Dame Margaret Rutherford at the piano show Alma Taylor and Shayle Gardner. The movie was directed by Hepworth, Cecil and still exists.
