    Pale Rider, 1985...

    After Club (
Richard Kiel) gets hit between the legs, Preacher (Clint Eastwood) helps him back to his horse. You do not see this, but Richard, due to back problems, had to use a step that was on the side of the horse to get onto his saddle. If you look you can see Richard take a step onto the platform before getting on the horse. The first horse assigned to Richard Kiel collapsed the first time he climbed aboard. He was then assigned a stronger horse.

    I Was Monty's Double, 1958..

The screenplay omits David Niven's part in the real operation. It was he, working for the Army's film unit as a Lieutenant Colonel, who first made contact with M.E. Clifton James. His role is taken in this movie by Major Harvey (Sir John Mills).

The following is from the UK's comic EAGLE dated 1st Nov 1958 Vol 9 No.44. "The ingenuity of the wardrobe department was often tested. A scene required John Mills to appear as if he had just emgerged from the sea, fully clothed. But as fast as he doused himself, the hot sun rapidly dried his clothes! So, the wardrobe department soaked the actor's clothes very thoroughly, in crude Spanish olive oil. Artistically, the result was perfect, but the odour of olive oil hung about for days!"

Some Like It Hot, 1959... one of the greats again... just sheer class.

Jack Lemmon wrote that the first sneak preview had a bad reaction with many audience walkouts. Many studio personnel and agents offered advice to Billy Wilder on what scenes to reshoot, add and cut. Lemmon asked Wilder what he was going to do. Wilder responded: "Why, nothing. This is a very funny movie and I believe in it just as it is. Maybe this is the wrong neighborhood in which to have shown it. At any rate, I don't panic over one preview. It's a hell of a movie." Wilder held the next preview in the Westwood section of Los Angeles, and the audience stood up and cheered.

    The Mist, 2007...

Stephen King says that he was genuinely frightened by this adaption of his novella. Frank Darabont described that as the happiest moment of his career.

The exteriors were filmed outside Shreveport, Louisiana. It's convincing enough as New England that when King first saw the film he leaned over to Darabont and asked "Did you shoot this in Maine?"

James Berardinelli wrote of the film, "The Mist is what a horror film should be—dark, tense, and punctuated by just enough gore to keep the viewer's flinch reflex intact. ... Finally, after a long list of failures, someone has done justice in bringing one of King's horror stories to the screen. Though definitely not the feel-good movie of the season, this is a must-see for anyone who loves the genre and doesn't demand 'torture porn' from horror."

Another from Toby Jones... Dad's Army, 2016.. Great comedy and a good attempt at the original cast...

There are two actors brought back from the original television cast: Ian Lavender, who played Private Pike in the television series, returns as the character of Brigadier Pritchard; and Frank Williams, who reprised his role as Reverend Timothy Farthing. The Jones' van in this movie is also the same one used in Dad's Army (1968).

Frank Williams (Reverend Timothy Farthing - Vicar) was due to appear in more scenes. He was deleted from the sequence where a paranoid Captain Mainwaring (Toby Jones) sees residents in Nazi uniforms. A scene with the Vicar was also written opposite Mrs. Elizabeth Mainwaring (Felicity Montagu), though Williams' schedule meant he was unavailable to film this scene, as he was on a cruise in Russia. To make up for his lost scene, Director Oliver Parker wrote the scene between the Vicar and Godfrey (Sir Michael Gambon) in the church hall on the morning of filming to make the most of having Williams, who received a standing ovation from the cast and crew on arrival to the church hall.

    The Enforcer, 1951...

The death of the "Joe Rico" character in a fall from a building parallels the real-life death (in 1941) of Abe Reles (aka "Kid Twist"), an underworld killer whose arrest the previous year led authorities first to discover the existence of the organization popularly dubbed "Murder Inc." in the newspapers. Reles, in order to avoid execution in the electric chair, agreed to testify against the organization after submitting to a police interrogation about it, which famously took a full two weeks to complete, so exhaustive were his recollections. However, he never appeared on the stand, dying --after falling or being pushed out of a window in the hotel where he was staying---the day before he was due to appear. The film depicts Rico's death as a tragic accident, but it is more than likely that Reles' death was murder--one which, furthermore, almost certainly had the collusion of corrupt police officers, although this was never proved.
