Avanti, 1972. Drected by Billy Wilder and stars Jack Lemmon and Julia Mills.

Billy Wilder wanted the hero's father's long-running affair to have been with a male bellhop at the hotel; studio executives dissuaded him.

Carlo Carlucci quote, 'The coroner, he eats very well. He knows all the widows'.

One of my all-time classics and favs, Young Frankenstein, 1974. PURE GENIUS!

When Mel Brooks was preparing for this film, he discovered that Ken Strickfaden, who'd made the elaborate electrical machinery for the lab sequences in the Universal Frankenstein films, was still alive and living in the Los Angeles area. Brooks visited Strickfaden, and found that he had stored all the equipment in his garage. Brooks made a deal to rent the equipment, and gave Strickfaden the screen credit he didn't receive for the original films.

Gene Hackman learned about the film through his frequent tennis partner Gene Wilder and requested a role, because he wanted to try comedy. He volunteered to play the Blind Hermit for free. It was four days of shooting for about four minutes of running time.
Gene Hackman ad-libbed The Blind Man's parting line "I was gonna make espresso." The scene immediately fades to black because the crew erupted into fits of laughter. Hackman was unable to repeat the line without laughing with the rest of the crew, so the first take was used. Hackman was uncredited when the movie was originally released in theatres.

Just watched the DVD of 'Kiss Me Deadly' 1955, with Ralph Meeker. Based on a Mickey Spillane story, really enjoyed it!

(the exploding beach cabin scene was ripped off by David Lynch and replicated in 'Lost Highway')

It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

not sure if ive seen that. title is very familiar tho.

anyway after a fair amount of poirot, im watching a remastered oldie... Night Train to Munich - 1940.

Considering the early release date of this movie--August 1940 in the UK and December 1940 in the US--there are many remarkable depictions of the onerous nature of the Nazi system, something not fully appreciated even by UK audiences at the time. The UK had bent over backward to accommodate Adolf Hitler in the late 1930s, and the war had only "gotten serious" a few months earlier with the debacle at Dunkirk in France and the following aerial Battle of Britain, which was well underway when this movie was released. The US would not enter the war for a full year after the December release date.

Another DVD, 'The Mean Season' 1985 with Kurt Russell and Mariel Hemingway. A solid serial killer thriller. Not seen it for years, but remember Richard Jordan being great as the murderer.
