Merrill's Marauders, 1962. Directed by Samuel Fuller and stars Jeff Chandler.

The film was shot in the Philippines and is a rather good account.
Chandler injured his back while making film, and filmed most of film under painkilling injections. you can see him wincing, and when he returned to USA had an op, but alas died under anesthetic..

It was the weakest practical joke since Cardinal Wolsey got his nob out at Hampton Court and stood at the end of the passage pretending to be a door!

Just catching up with these, quite entertaining, two mates trying stuff and taking the piss out of one another, the basic premise.

Up Pompeii!, 1971. Stars Frankie Howerd as Lurcio and Michael Hordern as Ludicrus Sextus.

quality stuff this, although if you hate his style you obviously wont like this.

Cassandra : Pompeii's citizens will befall the fate of the sinful men of Gomorrah!

    Lurcio : Will they, indeed?

    Cassandra : And Sodom

Lurcio : Ooh, I agree, the lot of them!

Good film - shame they bowdlerised the ending, but I imagine it would be far too much to portray for audiences at the time.

Wasn't that a remake of an earlier B&W film? I seem to recall thinking the first one was actually better and more nuanced.

Yes, the first one was was better IMO, but would never have held comparison with Cronenberg's visceral "body horror" approach.
