Me too! However, for me, most of the interesting foreign films, outside of the Jap horror variety, are French, and as I speak the language pretty fluently, the subtitles are largely irrelevant... Therefore, they're largely ignored.

BUT, there are so many good films around to watch, when you have access to them on various different fronts (paid subscriptions to movie channels, streaming, etc, as others and I do), as well as 'hard discs', there's really no need to watch ones in any language other than English!

Yes that too. But going back to sub-titles, they are now laser etched into each film frame and thus do not use a black background strip. So depending on the scene, the white (clear) letters of the sub-titling can be against a low contrast background - and that does make reading them difficult.

So I couldn't interest you in a little Mexican movie called "Amores Perros" then? Directed by the same guy that did "21 Grams" and in Spanish with subtitles? I think it may be too brutal for you, and definitely not a 'fun' film. But excellent nonetheless imo.

Oh and no dogs were harmed in the making of this film...

Would describe 'Amores Perros' as more a dark thriller rather than a horror film. But either way, it is quite an unsettling film.

Actually, Spanish isn't too bad, as it's quite similar to Italian (usually don't have too much problem understanding what's being said), so may check that out

Btw, in terms of films, I derive 'fun' from rather different things than most folks, and I certainly don't watch them to be 'cheered up', which is one of the reasons why I DETEST cheesy 'family-friendly' comedies or rom-coms!

Oh no, I wasn't holding it up as an example of the horror genre. Just as a subtitled film, which may be easy for "non readers" to follow

Ok, well how about "Babe: Pig in the City"? The overdubbed voices are actually quite believable

Of the films directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, I prefer

    Babel

A similar 'interlinked stories' screenplay to Amores Perros.

Of recent Mexican films I can recommend are :

    Y tu Mamá También

    Like Water for Chocolate

    and
    Pan's Labyrinth

I've seen "Pan's Labyrinth" (worth watching), but not "Babel". I'll look out for that one.

Pan's Labyrinth looks interesting... I think Del would like that, as she loves stories about fairies and princesses
