“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".
“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

Sunday's offering is the film noir classic, Kiss Me Deadly 1955. It was directed by Robert Aldrich, and starred Ralph Meeker, Albert Dekker, Paul Stewart, Juano Hernandez, and Wesley Addy.
The Kefauver Commission(This unique Los Angeles crime story suffered a troubled release in 1955 due to the Kefauver Congressional Commission, led by Senator Estes Kefauver, who issued a special condemnation of KISS ME DEADLY as immoral entertainment responsible for juvenile delinquency. Kefauver became the running mate of Democratic nominee Adlai Stevenson in the 1956 presidential election and suffered a landslide defeat against Eisenhower and Nixon.) called it a film "designed to ruin young viewers"
The film has been cited as a major influence on a number of filmmakers, including Francois Truffaut, Jean-Luc Godard, Alex Cox, and Quentin Tarantino.
This is the remastered bluray release

The Wages of Fear (1953)
In my top 5 favourite films, down at luck guys driving a truck hauling dynamite over very treacherous terrain.
Doesn’t sound much but as always, devils in the detail.
Nailbiting stuff, not seen this in at least ten years.
William Friedkin (The French Connection, The Exorcist) did an English language remake called “The Sorceror” with Roy Sheider in 1977, but doesn’t come close to the original.
If you like this, top tip also check out “Les Diaboliques” by the same Director.
