See No Evil, Hear No Evil, 1989. directed by Arthur Hiller, and stars Richard Pryor, Gene Wilder, Joan Severance, Anthony Zerbe and Kevin Spacey.

Oft said to be a poor collaberation and a worse script, which was reworked by Wilder, but its slapstick really so many find it silly.

High Anxiety, 1977. Directed by Mel Brooks who also stars, along with Harvey Korman, Cloris Leachman, and Madeline Kahn.

Brooks took great pains to not only spoof Hitchcock films, but also to emulate the look and style of his pictures. In an interview he said, "I watch the kind of film we're making with the [director of photography], so he knows not to be frivolous. He's got to get the real lighting, the real texture. For High Anxiety, it was 'What is a Hitchcock film? What does it look like? What does it feel like? How does he light them? How long is a scene? What is the cutting? When does he bring things to a boil?' We just watch everything."

After viewing the film, Hitchcock sent Brooks a case containing six magnums of 1961 Château Haut-Brion wine with a note that read, "A small token of my pleasure, have no anxiety about this."

I fact the two became firm friends and apparently met every Friday for a while .... apparently Hitch was a fan of Brooks as much the other way.

Sticking with Mel and the much loved by me (and Hitchcock), Blazing Saddles, 1974. Starring Cleavon Little and Gene Wilder. The cast includes Slim Pickens, Alex Karras, and David Huddleston, as well as Brooks regulars Dom DeLuise, Madeline Kahn, and Harvey Korman. Bandleader Count Basie has a cameo as himself, appearing with his orchestra. Brooks has 3 smallish parts too.

The film is full of deliberate anachronisms, from the Count Basie Orchestra playing "April in Paris" in the Wild West, to Slim Pickens referring to the Wide World of Sports.

Roger Ebert gave the film four stars out of four, calling it a "crazed grab bag of a movie that does everything to keep us laughing except hit us over the head with a rubber chicken. Mostly, it succeeds. It's an audience picture; it doesn't have a lot of classy polish and its structure is a total mess. But of course! What does that matter while Alex Karras is knocking a horse cold with a right cross to the jaw?"

Play It Again Sam, 1972. written by and starring Woody Allen, based on his 1969 Broadway play of the same name. The film was directed by Herbert Ross.
Stars Woody Allen, Diane Keaton, Tony Roberts, Jerry Lacy and Susan Anspach.

Quentin Tarantino said on his commentary track for True Romance (1993) that the character of Elvis Presley as portrayed by Val Kilmer, who appears to Christian Slater's character and gives advice and assurance, was based on the Bogart character in this film.
