When I was edumacated, -ise was the way to spell it.

Don’t forget America is a dangerous place, as they drive on the pavement.

This dates back to Anglo-Saxon times and Old English. It derives from the word acsian which means to ask or ask for.

True - in fact a lot of the pronunciation of English words in the US has remained largely unchanged since the Mayflower landed.

The grammar and sentence construction is often influenced by German.

But I doubt the origin Geoff cites has anything to do with it, those clowns say it because their mates do and they think it sounds cool. I just think they sound retarded. Yes I know I'm not supposed to use that word any more, but if they can say axe...

Cars that go over cliffs, fall a hundred feet then blow up.

The reason they blow up is so they don't have to show the hero go all the way to the bottom of the cliff to assure us the bad guy is dead.

Even if he somehow survived the fall, the car has inexplicably, but handily, blown to pieces. So certainly dead. We can end the show now.

(After a quick epilogue where everyone is standing about having a chuckle, even though a number of innocent people - including some close friends of theirs - have died during the episode).
