    To use a motoring analogy, a car capable of 170mph will drive much nicer at 80 than something that tops out at 100mph.

    Thanks to Steve, I got these pods off Ebay, less than a fiver, placed them between the Sttafs and some slate place mats I got from the local Robert Dyas for £8 for 4. It all produces a very stable and discrete base for the Sttafs, the sound seems to be better overall, but I'll have to replay some recordings tomorrow to confirm.

    Yep, sometimes it pays to actually go shopping rather than search on the internet, because I would never have found these otherwise, they fit perfect and actually look really cool, the pods are the perfect size too.

    There is a hotel restaurant in N. Wales we sometimes visit - the table place mats are of slate and look just like yours.

    Nice one.
    Always worth experimenting with different types of feet and platforms for yer speakers, can make a noticeable difference.

    Like a lot of this hifi stuff,
    No one idea fits all?

    Speaker type, what your floors made of, and a hundred other things… all matter.
    Lots of good affordable (and free!) things you can do to improve the sound from your speakers.
