May be it was my dear beloved old crack whore? I only offered it as a cautionary tale.Which replies? The ones about Simon & Garfunkel, Spandau ballet, Simply Red? Gawping at social media? Fear of commitment on the part of one or two members? I've gone back through these posts, and I disagree - mostly self-disparaging I would say.

Opening a bottle of wine myself now...Exactly - which is why I have steered clear of this thread. Some of the replies have been disgracefully 'blokish'!
As the OP, I expected some blokish comments and understand others have different experiences, and sense of humour. I have taken all as coming from a desire to be supportive.
I have found the responses to the "revisited" post sympathetic and encouraging. The same when my marriage failed and I posted here. On a "blokometer" they've been a damn sight less misogynistic here than some I received on a (respectable) motorcycle forum.

I have found the support here respectful of my experiences and in the past no-one ever indulged in derogatory comments about my ex. You have made supportive observations, I know. I have interpreted the humour used here as self deprecating, and others have been open about their negative experiences in a safe space.

I don't, but then I usually make up my own.
As to your second question - I don't know: I have only ever tried two 'stand alone' DACS. One was useless (it distorted on peaks), the second was different, but no better than the internal DAC of the CDP I was using. That said, I am still interested in using an external DAC with my Levinson 390 CD player.
