Anyway, for so long men have been shouted down for daring to poke fun at the opposite sex, while at the same time have been fair game for those keen to point out 'what's wrong with men' This video helps redress the balance, or justifies the existence of the "All men are tossers" camp, depending on your viewpoint.

I also find it pretty funny, and if that makes me a misogynist I can live with that

Opening a bottle of wine myself now...

As the OP, I expected some blokish comments and understand others have different experiences, and sense of humour. I have taken all as coming from a desire to be supportive.

I have found the responses to the "revisited" post sympathetic and encouraging. The same when my marriage failed and I posted here. On a "blokometer" they've been a damn sight less misogynistic here than some I received on a (respectable) motorcycle forum.
So thank you one and all. Please don't fall out.

I wouldn't have brought my experience to the pub car park.
I have found the support here respectful of my experiences and in the past no-one ever indulged in derogatory comments about my ex. You have made supportive observations, I know. I have interpreted the humour used here as self deprecating, and others have been open about their negative experiences in a safe space.

    Please don't fall out.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

    Nobody's falling out Sandy

Going back to your OP, My view FWIW, is if there's a chance she can make you (or your mate ) happy, go for it. Don't let past experiences make you over-cautious - we're a long time dead...

Just out of interest, who thinks expensive cables are better than cheap ones?

Also I've been wondering, do better measuring DACs actually sound better?

I don't, but then I usually make up my own.

As to your second question - I don't know: I have only ever tried two 'stand alone' DACS. One was useless (it distorted on peaks), the second was different, but no better than the internal DAC of the CDP I was using. That said, I am still interested in using an external DAC with my Levinson 390 CD player.
