    Default That was the year

Music for me started at the beginning of 1972, when my first single purchase was T. Rex Telegram Sam. Looking at the 100 best selling singles of that year, amazing just how many of them have really stood the test of time.* Can't think of a better year than that, unless of course you know different

*Of course there were plenty of duffers, it was after all the seventies.

Forget the past, it's gone. And don't worry about the future, it doesn't exist. There is only NOW.

They certainly were, but their ages averaged about 12. If you're going to have birds throwing themselves at you, they need to be a fair bit older. But I'm sure Donny was above all that, what with being a Mormon. Not sure about his brother though, the long haired lover from Liverpool.

I think 1972 also saw the peak of heart throb posters, probably lifted from Smash Hits or Jackie magazine. Like David Cassidy and Marc Bolan.

Yeah I never wanted to be in his gang. I was once in a hotel lift, when the doors opened, and there was Mr Glitter, all five foot nothing of him. He didn't get in the lift - I was 17 at the time, so not his target demographic.

1972 was the year "glam rock" started: The Sweet; Gary Glitter; Lieutenant Pigeon, and other acts best forgotten.
But it wasn't all bad - Lou Reed "walked on the wild side" and Bowie was setting out on his career.

Not forgetting your favourite, T. Rex

My singles buying started that year:

    Telegram Sam
    Metal Guru
    Children of the Revolution
    Solid Gold Easy Action
    Tumbling Dice
    California Man
    Meet Me on the Corner
    Lady Eleanor
    American Pie
    Stay with Me
    Virginia Plain
    All the Young Dudes
    School's Out
    Elected
    10536 Overture
    Silver Machine

Apart from the T. Rex ones Barry, I'm sure you'll agree it was not a bad year.

    I was being tactful.
But to give you a chance to have a go at my nascent choice, the first single I bought (around the age of 12) was "The Frightened City" by The Shadows.
The first EP I bought was by the Beatles, as was my first LP.

Said this before but I reckon '79 was the best year. Lots of solid hits that have stood the test of time (if we disregard Queen ofc)

    Current Lash Up:

    TEAC VRDS 701T > Sony TAE1000ESD > Krell KSA50S > JM Labs Focal Electra 926.

We should probably disregard Abba too. And The Dooleys.
