    Default recapping Sony SS-G4 speakers

I am the happy owner of Sony SS-G4 speakers but after listening to my previous Royd Minstrel which have a wonderful imaging but not the wide sound range of the Sony, I was wondering if I should look into recapping the Sony crossover.... Anyone with experience doing so and whether that can have the desired effect?
I looked inside the speakers and it's possible that it has already been done, as the caps look quite modern to me. There are 3 or 4 of them that I captured on the pics linked here:

    How old are the speakers?

It looks unlikely that they have been recapped as the original glue securing the components appears undisturbed.
I love Hendrix for so many reasons. He was so much more than just a blues guitarist - he played damn well any kind of guitar he wanted. In fact I'm not sure if he even played the guitar - he played music. - Stevie Ray Vaughan

Yes i noticed that too about the glue... They were probably made in 1981-1982, I've had them for a couple of years only. I can read in some posts that the capacitors can be tested, but I am not sure how.

Yes look originals. You can test with a meter but out of circuit. If they don't sound dreadful and no hums etc then it may be just the way they are

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

If the speakers don't sound dull I'd leave them.

Golden age Sony they didn't skimp back then.

    Definitely not dull

I have read others always recapping vintage speakers as a first step regardless of the sound. The caps look clean and fine to me though, I will just take some measurement to be sure

yeah I'm not really sure why people do that other than they have the time and the inclination. If they measure fine and sound fine why bother?

I know some think some caps sound better than others, I'm not so sure about that. Regardless, the speakers are classics and should be kept original IMO - so if it were me I would only mess with them if they really need it.

They’re good quality Nichicon caps and look to be fine with no obvious signs of deterioration.

    Just enjoy the speakers!
