Default How do y'all feel about this? - Public invited to swear allegiance to King Charles

People watching the Coronation will be invited to join a "chorus of millions" to swear allegiance to the King and his heirs, organisers say.
"I swear that I will pay true allegiance to Your Majesty, and to your heirs and successors according to law. So help me God."

lol for me it's on a par with clapping for the NHS.

We automatically owe allegiance no need to take the oath like some Hitler Youth rally

Always thought he was a bit pathetic myself but you salute the rank not the man and we've had pathetic people as king in the past and muddled through somehow.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Well, I was never conscripted in some fashion and bondage is long ended and I'm sure I'd remember if I'd signed a contract or agreement when I was born. As I didn't, I regard myself as a token member of society and its rules and conventions, so therefore pick and choose what I'll abide by (is that anarchy? ).

In reality, you can't beat the system. But you can sure as hell kick some dents in it on your way through!
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

I think it's great people are being given the option to do it. What would rile me would be either everyone being forced to do it under pain of imprisonment like N Korea, or a bunch of republicans saying because they didn't want to do it nobody should be allowed to do it.

Emmm, methinks they've misread the public mood on the King somewhat. Who the hell is gonna recite this nonsense? A few old ladies and some saddo half wits. If you ask me, I should be King, and I'll ban everything I don't like, starting with bad cyclists, people walking beside me at the same speed for uncomfortably long periods, people who talk loudly on their mobile phones on the seafront, women who pull their pants up when I look at their arse just to let me know they don't want me to look, and anyone whose views I disagree with on social media, shall be shot. "He's gone power mad!".
