Have to agree with you Martin, slot loaders feel like they’re scraping the discs. 4K$ is too much IMHO.

it's not the scraping, it's just awkward to use. Mine has some scratches on the front where I've missed the slot on the first attempt.

You live with it in a car but at home I don't really want that compromise.

Four K is too much you're right but if I thought it would last me out it doesn't seem too bad. If you watch the video they didn't skimp on the build quality so suspect it might.
    Current Lash Up:

    TEAC VRDS 701T > Sony TAE1000ESD > Krell KSA50S > JM Labs Focal Electra 926.

I've always liked the 'bomb proof' looks and build of the TEAC CDPs.

This one is more stylish looking; the slot entry doesn't greatly concern me. I'll have to have a look at the specification to see what digital output options are available.

Maybe I should start saving for one.

If you compare the cost with that of a decent vinyl front end, with the attendant quality phono stage and cartridge/future replacement cartridges/stylii, the cost doesn't look too bad. Go for it Mart, you only live once

I still think those rack handles look wonky though.
I just dropped in, to see what condition my condition was in

T/T: Inspire Monarch, X200 tonearm, Ortofon Quintet Blue. Phono: Project Tube Box CD: Marantz CD6006 (UK Edition); Amp: Musical Fidelity A5 Integrated.
Speakers: Zu Omen Def, REL T9i subwoofer. Cables: Atlas Equator interconnects, Atlas Hyper 3.0 speaker cables

    T'other system:

Forget the past, it's gone. And don't worry about the future, it doesn't exist. There is only NOW.

Sounds like some clear contact film around the slot could help. It would barely be visible and be easily removable.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

The slot thing was referring to the Audiolab I think. The Teac looks like it has a tray.

Just checked their website: https://teac.jp/int/product/vrds-701/feature - the units are made in China, so that eliminates it for me.

Getting very difficult to acquire stuff that isn't now 'made' in China alas.
The good stuff tho is very good; designed and overseen by Western Methods

they do look wonky. For that money it's got to look exactly right and it's not quite there for me. Rather take my chances with the old ones, I could get 8 of them for the price of this new Teac. And they look totally proper.
