When Peter Walker was asked what makes a good speaker cable, he replied "Firstly: the cable should be long enough to reach between the amplifier and the speaker. Secondly: the colour of the insulation should match the colour of the carpet over which it runs." (Or words to that effect.)

They already know that if you replace the stock cable on your lawnmower with an expensive lawnophile one it gives a better cut.

That's how Peter Walker was able to pick up the orange cable cheap. One of their cast-offs.

Must admit despite my scepticism I do use fairly expensive interconnects and speaker cable. But I would not recommend spending much money on cables to anyone. Worth it if you can to spend a bit more than the minimum to get something with durable constriction that prevents fall-apart. (I've got lots of broken cables). Otherwise budget should go on speakers and room where there is no doubt as to the benefits.
    Current Lash Up:

I hope you de-gaussed the fuse first and got it the correct way round.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

I don’t want my cables constricted.

You don’t “need” boutique cables. Good quality will do.

True. Common sense should tell us when something is taking-the-piss expensive. More money spent on boutique cables leaves less cash for records/CDs, and just encourages listening to the system instead of the music.
