Oh my god! There's nothing wrong with the bidet is there?

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

8C cloudy, dry not much wind.

Went down the shop last night and everywhere was eerily quiet. I am guessing because on Thursday there was a murder in the next street over from me, so the cops have closed off the main road through the neighbourhood and all the traffic is diverting somewhere else.

Romanians. They're a rum bunch. Just read the BBC news report, it says the police thanked people living near the cordon for their patience. So who called at your house to thank you? Was it the SIO or just a hobby bobby? Or did they just shout a "Cheers mate" as you walked back home with your beer and crisps?

Nobody called but did get leaflet through the door appealing for witnesses or CCTV footage.

Not that I was inconvenienced and I was at work at the time anyway and don't have CCTV so I suppose nothing to thank me for.

Usually its the Albanians whacking each other out, the Poles and Romanians are pretty quiet.

yeah I think you're right, though the Romanians do tend to get implicated in cable and scrap metal thefts quite a lot, and also doctoring cash machines. Maybe I just watch too many of those Channel 5 "Coppers vs Scrotes" TV shows. Ime Polish are almost always really hard workers. Come across them quite a lot.

As for Albanians, well... I once fitted a door and some windows for some Albanians, four or five adult blokes and one woman. I commented that he'd picked the most expensive Rock Door you can get, and he replied "I want something the police can't break down". "No, I'm joking", he added, but I'm not so sure. And the cars parked outside were worth more than their house.

There used to be a 'Coppers vs Scrotes' series that was filmed in Stoke but it was all just coppers wrestling people with mental health issues to the ground or trying to calm down drunken, hysterical women late at night. There was never any real crime on it.
