A very sharp frost and it's minus 6C, second time it's been that cold this winter I think.

yes, no free houses anymore. Tiny two bed new build is £200K - It's Victorian equivalent like mine are £100K. That's in the ghetto, if you want to live up the hill where there are trees and stuff, add fifty percent to those prices.

Still cheap compared to almost anywhere else though I suppose.

A friend of mine, her sister did buy an ex council 1950s 3 bed semi, big corner plot, decent area, for £100K but that was 'pre-pandemic' and it needed a lot of cosmetic work. I think they are still getting the woodchip off 3 years on.

when they come up for sale on my street they are bought instantly by landlords from down south.

Not likely to go back on the market in my lifetime. That's increasing prices since less of them to come back on the market. There's certainly no gentrification going on round my way, not unless you count transient foreign labourers and students as gentry.

We bought a nice house in Washington nearly 20 years ago, pretty ex railway workers terrace but officially ex council so it was just over £80k. They're still about the same now.
