I would agree with Dave, joining a club is worth trying. Just by starting with a common interest you're halfway there. You get to know the other person at an unforced pace, and in the company of others, so no need for it to feel awkward.
Similarly with night schools and adult college courses. I did a sports therapy course several years ago, and of the 12 people attending 5 were women, and all of them divorced. I wasn't in the market for a relationship - I genuinely wanted to learn - but I think some of the others were.
I wouldn't bother with anything hifi related, they're invariably a right sausage-fest
