    Default Best option ?

    Hi guys,
So as the lovely TT and cartridge that I have hasn’t sold I’ve decided to get back into the joy of vinyl BUT ! As the cartridge is MC and my amp only has an MM input which is my best option vs price , sound quality etc
A SUT , a different preamp ( using my Roksan K2 ) or an MC phono stage?

Depends on the budget and the unit chosen. A good SUT might sound better than a pre. A better pre might sound better than a SUT and so on. You need tottery a couple of units in your system.

Thanks Dave , another member said a sut .
Happy with the amp for now so sut seems the better option

Not if the MC amp is better. You can't generalise without knowing the actual units involved.

I agree with Dave, even though I use an SUT personally.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

Cheaper SUTs tend to be a disappointment and often outperformed by reasonable phono pre-amps, but my favourite is actually a good SUT into a decent MM phono stage.

Agreed - audio transformer design is a fairly esoteric subject and well designed transformers are expensive to manufacture. The better ones are made in Germany, Sweden, the US and Japan.

A SUT will alter the sound of a cartridge slightly, as the loading is marginally different between each one.
    We are talking minor differences.

Having a SUT will give you greater flexibility to try any MM only stage.
I have a SUT that you can borrow until you find one to buy if you wish.

    Cheers,
    Alan
I love Hendrix for so many reasons. He was so much more than just a blues guitarist - he played damn well any kind of guitar he wanted. In fact I'm not sure if he even played the guitar - he played music. - Stevie Ray Vaughan

    Morning Alan ,
That’s very kind of you , I may take you up on that offer but before I do I need to get other items to accommodate the TT such as a rack/table and more interconnects .
    I’ll be in touch mate.

    Cheers
