    Default BBC equipment auction

There’s a few tasty bits and pieces in here! Nagra and Studer reel-to-reels, assorted studio monitors (Qty Rogers, Chartwell, Harbeth LS3/5A monitor loudspeakers, 2 pair Harbeth LS3/5A monitor loudspeakers).

Worth a quick browse, I’d say:

I'll have a browse later when I'm less busy, could be interesting.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

These BBC sell offs seem to happen all the time. Got to wonder how much equipment they had. With that and the stupid salaries they pay it's no wonder there's no cash left to make decent programmes. Or buy the rights to any sport that's actually worth watching.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

I know 3 people who bought BBC reel to reels from the PP auctions... All were shot. They used their kit until the end.. Then stored it away.

    So... Caveat Emptor!

It all depends on the gear. R2Rs will obviously get used a lot and being largely mechanical will wear out; especially the heads. Loudspeakers on the other hand will probably be OK apart from cosmetic signs of wear and tear.

I bought my Nagra R2R from a seller of used professional gear. I think they were (are?) called Future Film Services, and my Nagra IV-S was bought for less than £500 and is in excellent condition, despite having been used.
