“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

Cool and grey out there right now, and just started raining.

Going to a record fair today, though won't be spending much. Just a couple if I can find something worth buying. We were undecided whether to go to Manchester or Windermere (given the weather, Lake District might not be as busy). I'll let the boss decide when she gets out of her pit.
I just dropped in, to see what condition my condition was in

T/T: Inspire Monarch, X200 tonearm, Ortofon Quintet Blue. Phono: Project Tube Box CD: Marantz CD6006 (UK Edition); Amp: Musical Fidelity A5 Integrated.
Speakers: Zu Omen Def, REL T9i subwoofer. Cables: Atlas Equator interconnects, Atlas Hyper 3.0 speaker cables

    T'other system:
Echo Dot, Amptastic Mini One,Arcam A75 integrated, Celestion 5's, BK XLS-200 DF

    A/V:
LG 55" OLED, Panasonic Blu Ray, Sony a/v amp, MA Radius speakers, REL Storm sub

Forget the past, it's gone. And don't worry about the future, it doesn't exist. There is only NOW.

Manchester or Windermere are the choices? Aren't they diametrically opposed?

I'm going to have a day out to the retail park to buy a new pair of trainers. Life is so exciting.

In weather news, sunny and dry. 16C now rising to 21C later.

Looks a bit brighter today - though cold. Around 11C now with a possible high of 16C and looking out there's a slight breeze. Blue sky though - and shadows on the ground - looks good to me.

Haven't really decided what to do - there's maybe some work to do in the garden. Nothing too exciting. The last "event" a couple of days ago was taking a microwave oven to the dump! That was heavy - as is its replacement. I never was really into weight lifting - but nowadays things like that are a bit of a struggle. Big issue with the dump trip - making sure the thing didn't drop and damage the car as we got it out.

Oh yeah, they are as different as can be. Manchester 25 miles south, Windermere 70 miles north. Manchester busy and probably difficult/expensive parking, whereas Windermere will be... who am I kidding, Windermere will be worse!

Whichever, just a day out somewhere really. Record fair just an excuse for going.

Good luck with the trainers search. Sports Direct probably best place to start.

I was thinking 'Windermere - beautiful and quiet', Manchester - noisy shithole'. But I suppose it's still summer holidays so Windermere might be heaving.

'Sports Direct' is where I am going. If there's nothing there I'll leave it. Not making two stops. Well, might get a burger for lunch.
