Absolutely cloudless sky. Around 27.5C (maybe a bit more) and without any breeze, so for me it's pretty insufferable.

Forced to retreat indoors where it's 25C, and change into my shorts and African short-sleeved shirt.

St Lucia primed me nicely for this

Is it just the sleeves on your shirt that are African?

No the whole shirt is of African design and was bought in Cameroon.

Plenty of scope for loud shirts in St Lucia

My African shirts are 'louder' than that.

Your shorts look similar, save mine are kahaki-coloured. I used to have a pair of white shorts, but seem to have mislaid them.

18C with loads of sunshine again, it'll be very warm again later.

It was 27C yesterday afternoon, but felt hotter for some reason.

36C predicted later this week, which means we'll probably get a degree or two more than that here, this is consistently the hottest spot in the UK. I should move!

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Looks quiet so far with occasional bright patches, and might get up to 19 C later, though the afternoon might bring rain.

Was St Lucia interesting - or was that just a complete chill out holiday? I actually don't like going to hot sunny places if there's not much to do or see. We were planning to go back to Cuba, but the flight's been cancelled so that's now off.
