I'm not sure where the sensors for the car will be located, but it will be somewhere shaded to give a true(ish) reading. Which will be nowhere near the temperature you have inside the car, which right now could be high 30s easily. No wonder your house feels cooler.
A few years ago I replaced the garage roof and used the Firestone EPDM rubber. The air temperature was mid 20s, but the rubber's surface was burning my knees. I laid a thermometer on the roof and it went straight to its maximum 50C.
I waited for a cloudy day to finish the job.
