    Opened it up. CD drive part on the left has a brand on it "MITSUMI" (not really legible in photo). There is also a logo here that matches the logo on one of the circuit boards (just to the right of the transformer).

    Any of this mean anything to anyone?

    Mitsumi - OEM manufacturer. So they probably knocked these up for a chain of electrical stores or department stores, like Saisho at Dixons or Matsui at Curry's.
